YOM KIPPUR

Yom Kippur in Hebrew: יוֹם כִּפּוּר or יום הכיפורים‎ is also known as Day of Atonement. Fasting will begin after lunch on Friday October 7, 2011 and last until sundown Saturday Oct 8th. Jews observe this holy day with a 25-hour period of fasting and intensive prayer. Yom Kippur completes the annual period known in Judaism as the High Holy Days or Yamim Nora'im ~ "Days of Awe". THe Jewish calendar ensures that Yom Kippur never falls on a Friday, Sunday or a Tuesday. The Torah calls the day Yom HaKippurim. Leviticus 23:27 decrees strict prohibition of work and affliction of the soul. A variety of liturgical poems are spoken, including a poem recounting the radiance of the countenance of the Kohen Gadol after exiting the Holy of Holies. In a solemn manner to echo the Light seen in the countenance of Moses after descending from Mount Sinai. According to Jewish tradition the Torah was dictated to Moses by God. On Friday 10-7-11 as I listened to the bible being read, I was stilled by His voice, then moved to extend His generosity and provision to others. An email from my mother covered what gloom is predicted as our dollar dives. TRUTH: God's word shall never collapse. As the world economy shakes, as rulers come and go, God's word is what we can cling to! FROM THE MESSAGE Nathan tells King David in 2 Samuel 7:11-30 "So here is what you are to tell my servant David: The God-of-the-Angel-Armies has this word for you: I took you from the pasture, tagging along after sheep, and made you prince over my people Israel. I was with you everywhere you went and mowed your enemies down before you. Now I'm making you famous, to be ranked with the great names on earth. And I'm going to set aside a place for my people Israel and plant them there so they'll have their own home and not be knocked around any more. Nor will evil men afflict you as they always have, even during the days I set judges over my people Israel. Finally, I'm going to give you peace from all your enemies. "Furthermore, God has this message for you: God himself will build you a house! When your life is complete and you're buried with your ancestors, then I'll raise up your child, your own flesh and blood, to succeed you, and I'll firmly establish his rule. He will build a house to honor me, and I will guarantee his kingdom's rule permanently. I'll be a Father to Him, and he'll be a Son to Me. When he does wrong, I'll discipline him in the usual ways, the pitfalls and obstacles of this mortal life. But I'll never remove my gracious love from Him, as I removed it from Saul, who preceded you and whom I most certainly did remove. Your family and your kingdom are permanently secured. I'm keeping my eye on them! And your royal throne will always be there, rock solid." Nathan gave David a complete and accurate account of everything he heard and saw in the vision. King David went in, took his place before God, and prayed: "Who am I, my Master God, and what is my family, that you have brought me to this place in life? But that's nothing compared to what's coming, for you've also spoken of my family far into the future, given me a glimpse into tomorrow, my Master God! What can I possibly say in the face of all this? You know me, Master God, just as I am. You've done all this not because of who I am but because of who you are—out of your very heart!—but you've let me in on it. "This is what makes you so great, Master God! There is none like you, no God but you, nothing to compare with what we've heard with our own ears. And who is like your people, like Israel, a nation unique in the earth, whom God set out to redeem for himself, performing great and fearsome acts, throwing out nations and their gods left and right as you saved your people from Egypt? You established for yourself a people—your very own Israel!—your people permanently. And you, God, became their God. "So now, great God, this word that you have spoken to me and my family, guarantee it permanently! Do exactly what you've promised! Then your reputation will flourish always as people exclaim, 'The God-of-the-Angel-Armies is God over Israel!' And the house of your servant David will remain sure and solid in your watchful presence. For you, God-of-the-Angel-Armies, Israel's God, told me plainly, 'I will build you a house.' That's how I was able to find the courage to pray this prayer to you. "And now, Master God, being the God you are, speaking sure words as you do, and having just said this wonderful thing to me, please, just one more thing: Bless my family; keep your eye on them always. You've already as much as said that you would, Master God! Oh, may your blessing be on my family permanently!" AMEN and HALLELUIAH!

  1. 2 SAMUEL 7:11-30 HOLMAN TRANSLATION
" 'The LORD declares to you: The LORD Himself will make a house for you. 12 When your time comes and you rest with your fathers, I will raise up after you your descendant, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. He will build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be a father to him, and he will be a Son to Me. When he does wrong, I will discipline him with a human rod and with blows from others. But My faithful love will never leave him as I removed it from Saul; I removed him from your way. 16 Your house and kingdom will endure before Me forever, and your throne will be established forever. ' " Nathan spoke all these words and this entire vision to David.

David's Prayer of Thanksgiving: "Then King David went in, sat in the LORD's presence, and said, "Who am I, Lord GOD , and what is my house that You have brought me this far? What You have done so far was a little thing to You, Lord GOD , for You have also spoken about Your servant's house in the distant future. And this is a revelation for mankind, Lord GOD . 20 What more can David say to You? You know Your servant, Lord GOD . Because of Your word and according to Your will, You have revealed all these great things to Your servant.
"This is why You are great, Lord GOD . There is no one like You, and there is no God besides You, as all we have heard confirms. And who is like Your people Israel? God came to one nation on earth in order to redeem a people for Himself, to make a name for Himself, and to perform for them great and awesome acts, driving out nations and their gods before Your people You redeemed for Yourself from Egypt. You established Your people Israel Your own people forever, and You, LORD, have become their God.
"Now, LORD God, fulfill the promise forever that You have made to Your servant and his house. Do as You have promised, so that Your name will be exalted forever, when it is said, 'The LORD of Hosts is God over Israel.' The house of Your servant David will be established before You since You, LORD of Hosts, God of Israel, have revealed this to Your servant when You said, 'I will build a house for you.' Therefore, Your servant has found the courage to pray this prayer to You. Lord GOD , You are God; Your words are true, and You have promised this grace to Your servant. Now, please bless Your servant's house so that it will continue before You forever. For You, Lord GOD , have spoken, and with Your blessing Your servant's house will be blessed forever."

  3. The Day of Atonement has deep theological significance in the New Testament. Chapters 8 to 10 of Hebrews argue that it pointed forward to Christ's work as priest. On the one hand, "only the high priest entered the inner room, and that only once a year, and never without blood, which he offered for himself and for the sins the people had committed in ignorance," (Hebrews 9:7). Christ, however, "went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not man-made, that is to say, not a part of this creation. He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption," (Hebrews 9:11-12). Christ's redemptive work is the fulfilment of the sacrificial ritual of the day of atonement.

  4. The Jews for Jesus movements states and describes its observances of this day as follows:

"Yom Kippur to Jewish believers in Y'shua. Do we fast and confess our sins like the rest of the Jewish community or do we rejoice in the knowledge that we're forgiven in Messiah? Many Jewish believers view Yom Kippur as a time for identification with our Jewish people, introspection for ourselves and intercession for loved ones, knowing all the while that Jesus is the One that makes us at one with God. We observe Yom Kippur as a part of worshiping Jesus called Y'shua or Yeshua:

"Synagogue is hardly the scene to begin a story about believing in Jesus, but it was there my questions started...From that point on, the entire Bible opened up. God's own Word described the One who would come, die, bear the sins of humanity, and be rejected. I knew that I had found the answer to my prayers in Jesus. I had met the God of Israel. It was through this Yom Kippur prayer that I came to see myself before God. There is no explaining away of sin. But there is a sin-bearer and "…that through Him forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, and through Him everyone who believes is freed from all things, from which you could not be freed through the Law of Moses." (Acts 13:38, 39.)"

  5. Blessed be the Lord God, who has secured our salvation in Yeshua the Messiah! That is what Yom Kippur is all about for those who call on His Name, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ...who is resurrected in us as the Holy Spirit...Who indwells us with His peace, wisdom and grace. AMEN

  6. Some believers in Jesus Christ question whether to fast since they are already forgiven in Messiah. Followers of Jesus do not fast to obtain forgiveness, yet are blessed with the benefits for fasting.

Yeshua spoke of the blessings of a fast. Although the question of salvation is already settled by faith in Yeshua, believers are still in constant need of returning to a pure walk with the Father. We have sins to confess and repent of (I John 1:7-9). Fasting can sensitize our spirits to the heart of God. Jews and Gentiles fast on Yom Kippur as it is the one day of the religious year on which Jews around the world are packed into synagogues and praying! Many believers have found it to be a special day to pray for the salvation of Israel (Romans 10:1). The evening of Yom Kippur is a wonderful time to worship God the Father, His Son, through the Holy Spirit. Attend a formal Yom Kippur service and be transported by His presence and grace through the music, liturgy and message all celebrate the true meaning of the day: atonement in Yeshua the Messiah!

  7. ROMANS 10:1-12 HOLMANS HCSB translation

"Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God concerning them is for their salvation! I can testify about them that they have zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. Because they disregarded the righteousness from God and attempted to establish their own righteousness, they have not submitted to God's righteousness. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. For Moses writes about the righteousness that is from the law: The one who does these things will live by them. But the righteousness that comes from faith speaks like this: Do not say in your heart, "Who will go up to heaven?" that is, to bring Christ down or, "Who will go down into the abyss?" that is, to bring Christ up from the dead. On the contrary, what does it say? The message is near you, in your mouth and in your heart. This is the message of faith that we proclaim: if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. With the heart one believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth one confesses, resulting in salvation. Now the Scripture says, No one who believes on Him will be put to shame, for there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, since the same Lord of all is rich to all who call on Him."

Written by Paul, who was a Pharisee, a man blinded by the Truth, a man who encountered Jesus and came to know Jesus as the Messiah
